Financial elder abuse appears to be a terrible new San Francisco trend. As blogged earlier, a Chinatown area travel agent is on trial for duping senior citizens out of thousands of dollars. Now a threesome of scammers allegedly preying on the elderly has been caught by one of their potential victims. Three LA men have been arrested in conjunction with posing as professionals to gain access into homes of seniors and then robbing them. The trip of scam artists allegedly targeted Chinese seniors by dressing up as water company employees. They would enter the homes and distract the residents while going through the place for valuables. In their last attempt, a woman had just been watching a warning report about the men when they knocked on her door. She closed the door upon seeing them and called the police. Elder abuse can come in many forms. Victims can be at home or in a nursing or residential facility. Abusers may betray the trust or take advantage of older adults through neglect, deceit or violence. Elder abuse is not always easy to spot, but if you believe you are or know a victim, please seek help.
