On Thursday, January 15, 2009, a seventy six year old woman, Evelyn Duran, was struck by a big rig truck in San Francisco’s South of Market district. According to official reports, Ms. Duran failed to see a construction worker directing pedestrian traffic around Sixth and Stevenson streets. She walked onto the street, fell and was struck by the truck. On January 9, 2009, another separate accident occurred on the border of Sacramento and San Joaquin counties in which a man and a child were struck by a tracker trailer and killed on Highway 12. The tractor trailer is owned by Cherokee Freight Lines and was hauling wine at the time of the accident.
