According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration research note on alcohol-impaired driving fatalities:

There was an estimated 12,998 people killed in 2007 as a result of an alcohol-impaired driving crashes.
There was a 3.7% decrease from the fatalities in 2006. Twenty five states and the District of Columbia had an increase in the number of impaired motorcycle riders.
The highest number of drunk driving fatalities was in the 25-34 age group and the second highest number was in the 45-64 age range.
Fifty-six percent of the total number of drivers in fatalities had a blood alcohol content of above .08%.
Males comprised of 83% of drivers in fatal crashes with a blood alcohol content of over .08% and women comprised of 15%, with an unknown 2%.
Fifty-five percent of drivers involved in fatal crashes with a blood alcohol content of .08% and above were not wearing seat belts or helmets, while 34% used them and it is unknown for 11% of them.
The highest number of drunk driving fatal accidents occurred in passenger cars, and then light trucks, and then motorcycles.
Fifty-seven percent of the drunk driving accidents occurred on the weekends, and most occurred between midnight and 3 a.m.
Most of the drunk driving accidents (68%) were single vehicle accidents while 32% were multiple vehicle accidents.
